Only the very dedicated were willing to shoot competition on the 600-yard range in soaring temperatures. Added to the heat was a variable wind and boiling mirage.
Despite the conditions there were some excellent scores posted.
Junior shooter Ronan Moon shot two excellent stages of 58 with three centres and 56 with two centres to finish the day with a tally of 114 and six centres. Moon increased his score in this year’s club championship by four points and is sitting on top of the F Class B-grade leaderboard. He has also tied with club legend Phil Costa for bragging rights in the F Class off-gun scores. Both are sitting on 1588 points however Moon is ahead of Costa in the all important centre count.
Keenan Stewart, who is a novice shooter and local Wingham junior, also posted an excellent first round of 55 with three centres. Stewart has only been shooting for a short period but is improving on a weekly basis.
Once again Suzi Laurie shot a terrific first stage of 57 with one centre in F standard B-grade, however the change in conditions were not as kind to Laurie for her second stage. Seasoned competitor Robert Bartlett who finished with a tally of 115 with eight centres to win both the F standard A-grade competition and the handicap event.
