While numbers were down in other locations to celebrate Australia Day, Harrington boasted a respectable crowd of more than 250 people, according to Chris Elford of the Harrington Lions Club.

The Lions Club organised the community event in conjunction with the Harrington Memorial Hall committee, the local Chamber of Commerce, the RSL Sub-branch and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sub-branch.
Graeme Jarman was the Master of Ceremonies with David Freeman from the Uniting Church giving the address.
Cliff Hoare, president of the Harrington and Crowdy Head Chamber of Commerce presented the Australia Day awards as follows:
Citizen of the Year: Mike Kelly, for his involvement in the Lions Club, the Men’s Shed and the gardening group.
Sports Person of the Year: Peter Budden for his involvement with Harrington Waters Gold Club.
Junior Citizen of the Year: Darcy Eady-Muxlow.
Junior Sports Person of the Year: Chelsea Atkins.
