This is a round trip of 90km.
At this stage organisers are unsure how many boats will be involved. However, a spokesman, Jeff Reardon, stressed this is for fun and not competition.
It is for what he described as ‘classic speedboats’ however, he added that any boat owner can join in. He spends most of his spare time restoring speedboats from the 1970s and 80s, the golden age of speedboat racing in Australia and the US, he said.
“We’re a Facebook group,’’ he said.
As of today (Friday January 19) the group had 1156 members. Jeff said the drivers will stop at Manning Point for lunch and he expects they’ll return to Wingham around 2pm. He said there had been expressions of interest from boat owners from throughout the area as well as Newcastle, with some travelling to Wingham and camping overnight.
Another run will be held later in the year from Stockton to Morpeth and return. Jeff said more details will be decided at Saturday’s run.
