Residents neighbouring a proposed 73 large lot residential subdivision off Oakvale Road, Cundletown, met on Saturday, January 13, and formed a small committee and action plan to fight the development application.

Annette Currence called the meeting at her home and said nearly 40 people attended.
“Everyone was opposed to the development across the road for a number of reasons,” she said.
These included environmental and traffic concerns as well as “that the zoning was changed without us being notified. MidCoast Council say it is all part of the Brimbin town.
“By law they don’t have to notify us but we think they should have. We think it’s dreadful for council to change the zoning without letting us know,” said Annette.
The Roche Group subdivision, known as the Oakvale Road Subdivision and part of the overall Brimbin New Community Development, proposes to front both Lansdowne Road to the west and Oakvale Road to the east and abuts the North Coast Railway to the north.
Annette said the residents’ query the location being Brimbin town, saying it was their understanding that Brimbin town was four kilometres away.
A committee of six people, including Annette, was formed at the meeting.
“Our action plan is to try and get an independent environment impact report and to question the environmental report because it’s not correct.
“We will also try to get an independent traffic report. They missed out important stuff.”
She said this includes flooding concerns and the presence of koalas in the locality.
The residents also committed to writing their own submissions to council, opposing the development application.
Annette, who wrote a letter to all the nearby residents inviting them to the meeting at her home, said only seven of the 40 people attending said they received letters from council about the development application.
“Council said they sent them but why did 33 people not receive their letter?”
The application and related documents are available on the MidCoast Council website (search the application tracking site and type the application number 471/2017/DA into the ‘Application Search’ box), or at the Taree office in Pulteney Street.
Submissions on the proposal close at 4.30pm on Thursday, February 15.
A search of the council website indicates a rezoning application on the land was made in November 2004.
