The society is compiling as much information as possible on those who served from all corners of the Manning Valley.

“We are constantly trying to build up our repertoire to have as complete a record as we can of the events that happened,” said researcher Margaret Clark.

The MVHS has applied for a grant to revitalise the war display at the Wingham Museum in time for Armistice Day on November 11.

“We also hope to include a listing of all who enlisted in World War I from the Manning Valley,” said Margaret.

Since October Margaret has been pouring over the archives and every reference to WWI she can find in local books to add to the list.

The list will form part of the Armistice Day display and might help local RSL sub branches update their honour rolls.

“I didn’t realise how big a job it was,” said Margaret.

With at least four to five hours a day currently devoted to the project, Margaret will be grateful for any information she can get from the public.

The MVHS is interested in information not previously known to the society or published in the Wingham Chronicle.

All photos submitted for the project can be scanned and emailed to the Manning Valley Historical Society via mvhsmuseum@internode.on.net.

If you have a photo or letter to share and are unable to email a scan, you can take it to the Wingham Museum on Tuesdays or Wednesdays to be scanned.

The society will not keep any photos or letters unless you choose to donate them to the museum.
