Free buses from Harrington, Coopernook, Croki Picnic Area, Forster-Tuncurry, Manning Point and Old Bar will be ferrying in locals and visitors to the action-packed day sporting races sponsored by businesses and holiday parks in the areas.
The family day sponsored by the Harrington Hotel, Club Harrington, Oxley Anchorage Caravan Park, Coopernook Hotel, L J Hooker Real Estate Harrington, Colonial Holiday Park Leisure Village and the Professionals Real Estate Harrington incorporates a jumping castle and face painting for the children.
There will also be prizes for the best dressed ladies and best dressed couple in the Fashion On The Field Competition sponsored by Harrigan’s Irish Tavern, Harrington.
Chairman of the newly formed Manning Valley Race Club, Greg Coleman, said the day will be used to celebrate the new club which now incorporates not only Taree and Wingham Race Clubs but also Krambach Race Club.
There will be the official unveiling of a plaque marking the occasion.
On hand will be Brown, a former local apprentice jockey, his wife, Kylie, and they will be part of official proceedings and will be available for autographs.
Brown has a pavilion named after him following his win on Shocking in the 2009 Melbourne Cup and the club will be paying tribute to his win on Rekindling in last year’s cup with the plaque.
“To further recognise his achievement the Corey Brown Cup will be staged on Wingham Cup day in early June each year,” Coleman said.
“It is hoped that he will be able to come up and ride at that meeting.”
Special catering arrangements have been made to cater for the expected big crowd.
