Fire destroys Tattersalls Hotel at Barringun | photos, video

The Tattersalls Hotel in Barringun has burnt to the ground over Christmas.

Local Rural Fire Service crews got a call at midnight on December 25 to report the pub was ablaze.

RFS NSW Far West district manager Vaughn Elsworth said the crews arrived to find the pub “pretty well destroyed”.

Local crews couldn’t do much to prevent the destruction of the hotel, however, no other buildings were destroyed in the fire and no one was injured in the blaze.

A full investigation is underway.

Constable Glenn Wilson was on scene responding as the only police officer for more than 140 kilometres, said RFS volunteer Monique Wilson.

The pub has had its fair share of national attention lately as former publican – 93-year-old Mary Crawley – sold the pub just weeks ago.

Ms Crawley was believed to be Australia’s oldest publican.

She was eventually successful in the sale, with the Barringun pub sold in the past month.
