Yahoo Island is located off Green Point, about a 15 minute boat ride up Wallis Lake from Forster.
The alarm was raised by one of the five teenagers’ parent’s at about 3pm on December 18, who was concerned they had not returned from a jet-ski trip up Wallis Lake.
The girls and a male parent had been riding two jet-skis in the main channel on Wallis Lake when the intake on one of the engines became clogged with weed in shallow water.
But, it was another two hours before the group, visiting from Sydney, was located, and another three hours before they were returned safely to Forster.
Rescuer, Richard Neale explained a combination of the receding tide, low water and blustery conditions made it difficult to get the group off the water.
“The conditions were just terrible,” he said.
“It was the bottom of the tide and the water was very low.”
Marine Rescue called in the help of Forster Surf Lifesaving members who brought in an IRB.
But, they also had trouble, he said.
“We were grateful for their help.”
