Manning River Rowing Club competitors win 28 medals at Australian Indoor Rowing Championships

Manning River Rowing Club competitors picked up a combined 28 medals in the 2017 Australian Indoor Rowing Championships. 

Paulette Baker, Louise Beeton, Warren Blanch, Colin Broos, Amanda Cavill, John Cross, Keith Gunn, Sean Hassett, Norma Hodson, Leanne Irving, Graham Nix, Jenny Pitt, Hannah Smith and Lesley Weers were the recipients of 13 gold, eight silver and 7 bronze medals.

Hannah Smith was the only competitor nationally to complete the two kilometre female 12 and 13 race. 

Co-ordinator of the Taree leg of the championships Hugh McLeod was pleased that a small group of entrants were able to receive a good haul of medals. 

“They punched well above their weight,” he said.

Hugh added that some of the medal winners have only been rowing for six months.

The championships consisted of 500 metres, one kilometre, five kilometres and one minute events. 

The club is set to apply to host a round of the championships next year.
