It was the first time the school had taken part in the national fundraising and education initiative. The Movember Foundation funds a year-round awareness and education program to encourage men to become more aware of their health, talk more with their friends and be more active – improving their health and wellbeing. The foundation has committed to achieve by 2030:
- Reduce the rate of male suicides by 25 per cent
- Halve the number of deaths from prostate cancer
- Halve the number of men dying from testicular cancer
- Halve the number of men experiencing serious mental and physical side effects from treatment for prostate cancer or testicular cancer
The money raised by the St Clare’s students will be used to support the education of men, to create services for men and fund breakthrough research.
Mr Nicholls thanked the students and their sponsors for “their the willingness of the boys to have a go and the enjoyment they had as the month progressed was great to watch.”
“In the end the boys raised a whopping $2337 which was a wonderful achievement.”
