Nurse Angela Callaghan said 135 donations are needed to prevent a shortage of blood during the Christmas period.
“A lot of our regular donors take holidays this time of year so we’re asking for others to step up and donate blood to save three lives,” she said.
Angela added that platelets only last three to four days on the shelf so continuous donations are required.
The plea coincided with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service revealing the list of names of those most likely to be blood donors in Taree.
Top female names include Susan, Lynette, Jennifer and Julie while for men, Peter, Michael, William and Stephen are among the most common.
Stephen Snow made his 69th donation on December 6.
He encouraged others in the community to help those in need.
“It doesn’t take much time and it helps the community,” Stephen said.
