Forty special guests from disability groups from across the Manning Great Lakes region enjoyed the Big Day Out at the Races at Taree Racecourse on Sunday, December 3.

The event, which has been held annually in August for a number of years, was moved this year so that it coincided with the International Day of Disabled Persons 2017.
Social worker Luke Muldoon organised the event.
“When we saw there was a race day on International Day of Disabled Persons we jumped to book it in,” he said.
“When we have the event in August we usually get around 180-250 people, so it was nice to have a smaller more intimate event.
“The event is not owned by any one organisation, but contributed to by a number of disability service providers in the community. This year Lifestyle Solutions and About Inclusion were the major contributors.”
The day included a fashion on the field contest, as well as a special lunch, with people travelling from as far away as Tea Gardens to attend.
“Everyone enjoyed watching the races, a few of the racegoers enjoyed a bit of a punt, and got lucky on the first race with an unexpected win,” Luke said.
“Thanks to the local businesses who support the event, especially Hog’s Breath Cafe Forster and Endota Spa Forster, the day wouldn’t be possible without their support.
“We really hope that the Big Day Out at the Races will continue to grow bigger and better in the future.”
