“I was interested to read the Road to Remembrance article entitled ‘Call-up divides nation’ (Manning River Times November 29, 2017) as I have found several copies of a flyer produced locally in December 1917 encouraging a "no" vote. Stan mentions the referendums In his letters.”
The flyer was printed on behalf of the Non-Conscription League, Taree, authorised by president W Smith on December 15, 1917.
Sue recently found about 20 letters written to her grandfather, William Gollan of Tinonee (son of Captain Hector Gollan) from Stanley Brazel who was enlisted as a signaller between 1916 and 1919.
“Researching Stan's war service records and reading the letters has been quite a moving experience for me,” Sue said.
