Having come from the Moorbank Motorcycle Club in the metropolitan area, he relocated to this town yet retained his love of the 125cc Honda Elsinore and contested various titles.
A major success was the NSW State title in 1978 but the next 20 odd years he spent establishing his home, family and business.
Rather a perfectionist in all his endeavours, he prepared his own machine which was so immaculate he had many of his competitors beaten at the grid.
His race plan was simple – first away from the grid and stay in front which worked well because he had complete confidence in his motorcycle.
I won’t say he won every race he entered but as titled are concerned, he won his club championship in 2012, Australian title in 2007, Trans Tasman masters title in 2005 as well as the NSW State championship in 2012.
Naturally he suffered some spills but was always careful and considered other competitors so was well respected in racing circles.
Having accomplished all he set out to do in riding against competitors half his age, with medical advice he has decided to hang up his racing boots and concentrate on restoration of his bunch of Elsinores acquired in later years.
These are seriously perfect restorations and like his race bike, something to behold.
I don't know of a more successful dirt track rider who has all these titles to his name.
Whilst proud of his achievements, he isn’t boastful or self-promoting. With those credentials, I’d allow him to be a wee bit boastful – wouldn’t you?
