The event will begin at 10am and co-ordinator Bree Katsamangos says the harvest will be a fun and educational experience, a great “grubby outing for children and families” and volunteers will be rewarded with morning tea and a light lunch during the three hour event.
The Great Family Garlic Pull on November 26 is just one day shy of the inaugural garlic harvest that was on November 27, 2016.
Volunteers dug up about 50 kilograms of garlic from beds. Various varieties were planted to determine the best type to plant in 2017; the best of the garlic was harvested for planting and some was sold to reinvest in the garden. The choice to plant garlic is part of a strategy to create an income stream to support the development of the garden.
Horticultural planner Darren Harrison is aspiring to have the garden become “famous for growing incredibly tasteful garlic.”
