The “Ask for Angela” campaign has already been adopted by eight Manning licensed venues, with more expected to follow.
Accord chairman, Barry Murray has confirmed Wingham Services Club, Club Harrington, Royal Hotel, Wynter Tavern (formerly Bushland Tavern), Harrigan’s Irish Pub, Wingham Show Society, Exchange Hotel and Manning Point Bowling Club have signed up to the campaign.
“The ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign was originally developed by the Lincolnshire County Council in the UK which encourages patrons to “ask for Angela” if they require assistance to leave an unsafe or difficult situation,” Mr Murray said.
“Following in the footsteps of the Wagga Wagga accord, we at the Manning Valley accord have adopted this campaign in the hope all our licensed venues will come on board, support the idea and allow our patrons to feel safe knowing that assistance is at hand if their day or night turns pearshaped.
“If feeling uneasy or threatened, the patron would only need to approach a staff member and “Ask for Angela” which would be an alert for the staff member to take action deemed appropriate at the time e.g. call a taxi for them, notify a friend, advise security or if need be, call the police.”
Mr Murray urged licensed venues to join the campaign and help present a positive and pro-active “vibe” during this festive season and beyond.
