“We are upskilling elders to be able to live well in the tech driven 21st Century,” Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead said.
“By paring elders with tech savvy children the program offers intergenerational learning benefits, upskilling for our elders and at the same time allowing them to pass on some wisdom to the children.”
The Tech Savvy Elders program is a NSW government initiative delivered in partnership with the Burraga Foundation and the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and forms part of the Tech Savvy Seniors program.
“Being able to connect with friends and loved ones, and have access to services and information more easily, is what Tech Savvy Elders is allabout,” Mr Bromhead said.
Minister for Ageing, Tanya Davies visited Chatham High School to see the program in action.
“The NSW government is committed to helping seniors unlock the benefits of being online, particularly those living in regional NSW,” Mrs Davies said.
“There has been demand among older Aboriginal people for more classes, so I’m thrilled to see the program being rolled out here in the Myall Lakes. It is fantastic to see so many elders at Chatham High School today.”
