Six sides, including Taree Panthers, are contesting the open division. The competition will run for six weeks with the top two sides on the pointscore playing for the championship on the final week.
A representative side will be announced at the conclusion of the competition to play in 13-a-side trials against other regional areas at Singleton next February. From here a train-on squad will be named for the clash against City.
Country Rugby League women’s participation officer Kylie Hilder from Forster-Tuncurry said the representative side will play under the Hastings League banner. There are two sides from Port Macquarie as well as Wauchope, Camden Haven along with Taree Panthers and Wingham in the open division. Matches are also being played in the under 14 and 16 age groups. The Hastings League ran a competition during winter, with games on Friday nights at Wauchope.

A number of women’s nines competitions have started in country areas this year. although the Hastings League is the only one on the North Coast. Hilder explained all nines competitions will be run over November/December.
Ultimately she’d like to see Group Three run a women’s nines.
Hilder represented Country in the inaugural match against City this year, where she was named Country’s player of the match.
