To me it was the most enjoyable of the trio.
This 1170cc motorcycle is a very easy bike to adapt to. As soon as I got in the saddle felt comfortable.
The bikes nimble handling belies its 220Kg bulk.
The RnineT Urban GS draws on the genes of the very first of the legendary BMW R 80 GS of 1980.
But this is a 2017 motorcycle with contemporary technology, be it limited.
The bike is driven via a lively, air/oil-cooled boxer engine. Power is 81Kw (110hp) it combines with a 6-speed gearbox.
Stopping power is provided by radially mounted 4-piston monoblock Brembo brakes, with the assistance of ABS.
The test bike came with traction control and heated handgrips but not much else. In keeping with the retro theme it is relatively low tech. It has a speedo encompassing a trip computer but no tacho.
The nobbly off road tyres were a real revelation on the bitumen where they handled as if road tyres. Most impressive.
The bike would comfortably commute all week and turn into your adventure machine on weekends. BMW’s rollout sale price for the BMW RnineT Urban GS is $18990 ride away. My rating 8/10
