After the relatively uniform, albeit elegant, vibe of Derby Day, Cup Day always promises an assault on the senses. Thankfully, 2017 didn't disappoint, with an explosion of pink in the Birdcage.
While the weather made a coat and sensible shoes a good bet, many marquee dwellers chose to brave the elements, rather than cover or compromise their look.
In contrast to Saturday, when pants, pant suits and jumpsuits were out in force, Cup Day saw more skirts and dresses, although, as several observers noted, an absence of hats.
Maybe it was the weather that had some women (and the odd man) leaving the chapeaux at home, in favour of a headband or turban.
Hopefully Oaks Day, ladies day, will bring out more wide-brimmed hats to accompany the feminine silhouettes and fabrics that are traditional for the day. And, you can bet, more pink.
Cup day's best dressed
If I had just won half-a-million dollars on The Block, I'd also have the chutzpah to wear fluoro orange ??? or is it a tangerine dream? Knowlesy has traded her Block high-vis vest for this Cappellazzo couture creation, and we bloody love it. The only dress that made my heart stop.

The Myer ambassador is one of the nicest birds in the Birdcage but some of her racing outfits have divided observers in recent years. But this pink Talulah creation with headwear by Viktoria Novak is sunshine on a cloudy day.

I'm a huge fan of this model but her Derby Day look was a bit "meh" for me. Both dresses are by Alex Perry but this one is bang on. One of my favourite looks of the day, including the bed hair. Filed under "W" for "Where was this dress on Saturday?".

She may not be a household name but the Yummy Mummies star pulled off one of the best high-volume looks of the day in Nicola Finetti, who's in a bit of a purple patch.
Love the one shoulder, love the length, love the hat, on a day when hats were hard to come by.

Someone give this woman a rose for this Rebecca Vallance creation in marigold. I am a sucker for a bow so I was always going to love this but the styling by Lana Wilkinson is topnotch, especially that navy Scanlan Theodore headpiece.

At first I thought this dress was a little too salsa for the Cup but the more I look at it, the more I like it. And frankly, I was in the Myer marquee and couldn't take my eyes off her. Another win for Wilkinson.

This Nicola Finetti dress is so over-the-top, so amazing, it warrants two photos. The Schweppes marquee ambassador nails it with a little help from Melbourne super-stylist Kate Gaskin.
