The funding will be used to purchase new equipment such as jerseys, goal post pads and a line marking machine.

The pads and line marking machine will be at the use of the junior club as well as the Group Three side.

The funding aims to assist sporting clubs that want to invest in their facilities and the development of their emerging talent.

Former NRL player and Taree resident Danny Buderus was on hand for the presentation and welcomed the support shown for the club.

"It's a great initiative from Holden not just for rugby league clubs but for other sporting clubs in the area who have applied for it,” Danny said.

Danny added that club can utilise the funding to help find future stars of the NRL.

“There’s definitely some talent in this pool here.

“That’s why we've got to keep looking after these young kids coming through and aspire to be like Boyd Cordner and Latrell Mitchell.

"Wingham for me is a rugby league heartland, a nursery for Manning Valley rugby league players,” Danny said. 

The funding is open biannually and is open to all sporting organisations. 

It was the fourth grant the club has recently received, taking their total to about $40,000.

These included portable grandstands, canteen equipment and $1800 for first aid training as part of the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program.

Wingham Tigers Junior Rugby League vice-president Ron Spriggs said the club was pleased to receive the grant and that Danny was able to attend the presentation.

"It was good for the kids to see him and its good to see a player of his status come back to our level and say hello,” he said.

The Tigers had approximately 170 members last season with numbers expected to increase in 2018.

Ron said the club had a large turnout in the under 6s to under 10s and will field more than one team in several divisions. 

“It’s so more kids can get a run,” he said. 

Ron added that he will work on applying for other grants for the club.
