The freshwater water part of the Manning is causing concern because of the lack of water flow. The river level is low and water holes are filled with weed and slim, so it is tough for fishing.
The estuary, being salty right up the falls, encourages fish up the river. Bream and whiting can be caught up-river to Wingham on plastics fished along the steep banks in the deeper water.
The wall at Harrington has produced catches of bream and flathead. The backwater at Harrington and past Harrigans are good places to catch a flathead, however, no big fish have been reported.
Outside anglers have caught some good snapper to 4.5kgs on the northern ground on soft plastics earlier in the week.
