The Wingham Akoostik Festival kicks off at Wingham Showground on Friday, October 13 at 5.30pm with local choir Wingsong the opening act. 

Local indigenous dance group Waang-djarii will perform Welcome to Country on Friday night and will also perform on Saturday night.

Seventy artists will perform over the three days, including a mix of well-known Australian icons and locals. 

Among the big names are Kasey Chambers, Russell Morris, Ella Hooper, The Turner Brown Band (USA) and Eurogliders.

This year Akoostik organisers are joining the war on waste, supported by JR Richards and Sons, with special bins provided for food waste. 

There will be a large variety of international food to eat, and a range of stalls. 

All weekend

  • ‘The Old Oak Tree’ Exhibition at Gloucester Gallery, featuring works by Wilma Brown and Lyn Stewart, 10am to 4pm Thursdays to Sundays. Official opening 6pm this Saturday, October 14.

Friday

  • Whizzy the Waterdrop Storytime - Hallidays Point Library, 10.30am to 11.15am.

Saturday

  • Life Drawing Studio special session with Jocelyn Maughan, noon to 3pm, at the Manning Regional Art Gallery, Macquarie Street, Taree. Cost $15.
  • Gloucester Farmers Market, 8am to noon, Billabong Park, Denison Street, Gloucester.
  • Johns River Community Markets, 8am to 12.30pm, Community Hall, Johns River.
  • Wingham Community Markets, 8am to noon, Dennes Street, Wingham.
  • Guided tour of Gloucester District Park by Gloucester Garden Club, 9.30am to 11.30am, Boundary Street, Gloucester. Meet at the grandstand. Free.
  • ‘Accent On Iris’ Flower and Photography Show, 10am to 3pm at Burrell Creek Hall, Bucketts Way, Burrell Creek. Entry $3. 

Sunday

  • Krambach Markets, 8am to 1pm, Bucketts Way, Krambach.
  • Great Lakes Museum Car Boot Sale, 9am to 1pm, Capel Street, Tuncurry.
