Another 800 people were at a similar event at Coffs Harbour. The human sign spelt two words – Stop Adani. Adani is the billionaire Indian coal miner who wants to build the biggest coal mine in Australia’s history, a mega mine in north Queensland.
The local event was coordinated by the Mid North Coast Stop Adani Alliance. Acting President of CCA-H, Harry Creamer, said the large turn-out showed the depth of opposition to the proposed project.
“Nationally, 64% of Australians oppose this mine with its federal government funding of $1 billion and on-going subsidies, on top of the royalty holiday and free unlimited water given by the Queensland government”, Mr Creamer said.
“We must demand of our local politicians, that if they do not make a stand against this project, they cannot expect us to vote for them at the next election”, Mr Creamer said.
