From an eight year old orphan on the streets of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to the International Student of the Year, Linus Faustin has come a long way.

Linus was presented with the International Student of the Year award by Governor Hurley at Government House on Friday, September 22.

The Taree on Manning Rotary Club, as well as University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has sponsored Linus to help him get to this point.

UTS has also elected Linus as its student representative to the UN in New York. He was also elected by his peers as vice president of the University Union which employs 300 staff.

Taree on Manning Rotary’s Maurie Stack is very invested in Linus’s future prospects and believes he has long term serious potential leadership prospects in Tanzania.

“He needs more than technical university qualifications in Australia to set him on his way,” Maurie said.

“He needs to be able to move between first world and third world countries to achieve his potential, and for that he needs residency, which he can get after three years of employment after university.”
