Fencing Saxby Park in Taree, subsidised microchipping, and an animal welfare day were some of the achievements of the RSPCA Taree and District Branch in the last 12 months.

The branch recently reviewed its activities and its annual general meeting on August 18 saw the re-election of Sandy Brooks to the position of president. The other office bearer positions are: vice president Kelly Fernance, secretary Jan Swift, treasurer Joy McDonald, fundraising officer Kerry Ross, animal welfare co-ordinator Amanda Brooks and publicity officer Pattie Hogan.
Mrs Hogan described the year as successful and said “branch volunteers, although small in numbers, have big hearts and their care and concern for the welfare of animals is the reward for their efforts.”

“Throughout the year we have assisted many animals that were injured or neglected without treatment these animals faced a bleak future.
“In December 2016, the branch completed the fencing at Saxby Park and it is now a fully enclosed leash free area that is being well utilised by dog owners in the community.
“In April we conducted a microchipping day at Taree Pet Barn in conjunction with the Animal Welfare League Forster Branch. This was a hugely successful day with many dog and cat owners taking advantage of the $5 fee.”
Mrs Hogan added that on August 10, NSW RSPCA in conjunction with our branch conducted an animal welfare day at Purfleet that saw 65 dogs and two cats checked.
“Vaccinations and microchipping of animals was carried out and subsidised vouchers were given for desexing of animals at our local vets.
“We would like to thank all the businesses who donate so generously throughout the year as well as the local community who support our monthly stalls. Without them the branch could not assist those animals who desperately need our help.”
Mrs Hogan said the Taree Branch would welcome new members at its meetings on the third Friday of the month from 1pm in the Uniting Church rooms.
