Over the past two years, Bulahdelah Central School has developed the program, which has formalised in structure with set sequential classroom lessons embedded into daily classroom and playground practice.
These lessons are linked, on a weekly basis, to the school’s values of participation, respect, innovation, determination and excellence (PRIDE).
The lessons are also aligned with the school’s five ‘Aussie fair rules’ that are clearly displayed in all classrooms and referred to daily.
An important component of applauding best practice in students is to recognise their positive behaviours through a PBL Police Award.
Since starting the program, the primary department has seen a marked reduction in the number of negative entries on the monitoring system.
The school has rewarded positive behaviours by awarding students with merit certificates that accrue throughout the year towards the bronze, silver and gold awards.
Year 12 students preparing for their final HSC exams have benefited from the program, which the school will continue in the final term of 2017.
