In just two seasons the Mustangs are developing a strong grassroots group of players who were recognised for a productive season.
Major award winners were:
Under 11s
Coach’s award Jackson Bobsien, leading goal scorer and runner up best and fairest Jackson Barry, best and fairest Will Jones. Under 13s
Coach’s award Cruz Vassell, runner up best and fairest Jett Vassell, leading goal scorer and best and fairest Jacobi Shaw The Mustangs also recognised their Auskick players, some of whom will be stepping up to the under 11s next season. Club president Jeremy Thornton was thrilled with the performance and club culture being created.
“Building a new club takes at least five years and anyone who thinks just turning the tap on in one day makes a club is wrong,’’ he said.
“It takes time and dedication and I’m thrilled with the group we have. The committee this year has taken the club to a new level which was evident by the energy and enthusiasm at our end of season function.”
Planning now starts for season 2018 where Mustangs intend to stay with the under 11 and 13 teams.
“It’s time to bed down our core group of players and concentrate on building them to a competitive level,” Jeremy explained.
“Our under 13s in particular struggled for numbers so we need to get critical mass in this group. We have identified more players keen to join and with the amount of Auskick now being played in schools and the area we are confident of strong recruiting for next year.”
The annual meeting will be held on Sunday October 8 from 4pm at Club West for those interested in being part of the future of AFL in the area and a new season of AFL 9s kicks off this Thursday from 6pm at Taree Recreation Centre.
