Roberts was named the group’s player of the year at the presentation held at the Wingham Services Club. The utility forward won by a point from Wingham second rower Jake Mullen.
Roberts hails from Kempsey and admits returning to his home club, Macleay Valley, appeals. However, he added the prospect of defending the premiership with the unbeaten Breakers is tempting.
Roberts was also named player of the match in Port’s 28-20 win over Macleay Valley in the grand final.
Port City dominated the first grade awards, with Sean Barrett named the most improved while Michael Marshall scored the most points with 130 from five tries and 55 goals.
There was a three-way tie for the leading try scorer, with Old Bar’s Clint Walker and brothers Owen and Stephen Blair all on 19. Owen played with Port City, Stephen with Macleay Valley.
Joint winners
THERE were joint winners in the Group Three under 18 and reserve grade players of the year. Jared Wooster from Old Bar and Port Macquarie’s Blake Wells won the under 18 award. Chris Cole from Port City and Wingham’s Brendan Butler shared the reserve grade award.
This capped a big year for Butler, who was also player of the match in Wingham’s grand final triumph.
Joel Minihan from Old Bar was the leading point scorer in under 18s with 102 from five tries and 41 goals while Wingham’s Callum Wesley scored the most tries with 13. Wauchope's Brett Taylor was the most improved.
Mitchell Maheffey from Old Bar was named most improved in reserve grade with Doug Ferguson from Taree City the leading try scorer on 22. Chris Cole from Port City was the top points scorer with 158 from two tries, two field goals and 74 goals.
Three Pirates in squad
THREE Old Bar players were named in the Group Three wonmen’s league tag team of the year.
They are Holli Wheeler, Tahlea Rowsell and Sara O’Connor. The Pirates won the club’s first league tag premiership this year.

Lisa Bullivant was the player of the year and the leading try scorer with 14. Sara O’Connor was the leading point scorer with 82 from nine tries and 23 goals. Emily Lester was runner up in the player of the year.
