Mr Gilbert was commenting on Australia’s prostate cancer epidemic with annually takes the lives of more than 3000 men.
In early September the Talk Tonight host will join local member, Stephen Bromhead, and world class entertainers Danny Elliott and Kevin A Legend along with Manning Valley Concert Band, the Wingham Pipe Band and Prime Possum at this year’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Family Fun Day.
Hosted by the Member for Myall Lakes, the event will be held on Sunday, September 10 at John Wright Park Tuncurry from 10am.
The prostate awareness event aims to improve the understanding of prostate cancer symptoms, so that early intervention may be possible.
Funds raised will support the Great Lakes Prostate Cancer Support Group, The Manning Valley Prostate Cancer Support Group and for research into prostate cancer by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Along with the free entertainment, the day will include great prizes, food and take important take home messages from local health professionals which could save a life.
Mr Bromhead said he was once again pleased to host the event.
The local members said he had been touched by the high incidence of prostate cancer in his Myall Lakes electorate and emphasised the importance of raising both awareness and funds to help those individuals and families affected by the condition.
Entertainer, Danny Elliott has played to standing ovations, performing on the cruise ship QE2. He has supported Shirley Bassey, Marina Prior, The Ten Tenors and the Supremes.
Accolades have included a MO Award as Variety Performer of the Year and nominated for the MO Performer of the Year alongside greats like Hugh Jackman.
Kevin A Legend is a comedy impressionist who has the voices of 100, he has supported legends like Tom Jones, Joe Cocker, Cliff Richards and the late Cilla Black.
Performing live across the USA, UK and Asia , no celebrity is safe once they are in the sights of the Legend.
Emergency services including the Rural Fire Service, NSW Police, ambulance, fire service, State Emergency Service and the Volunteer Rescue Association will have displays and information booths along with large display or cars courtesy of Taree Historic Motor Club and Manning Valley Cruzers.
The Mid North Coast Australian Light Horse Association will have a display with local Rodney O’Regan, on hand to discuss Australia’s participation in the great wars.
At around 12.45pm the draw of a monster raffle, with prizes valued at more than $3000 including $1000 cash and a $500 Port Central Shopping Centre shopping voucher first prize will be held.
Second prize includes a three-day pass to the Newcastle V8 Supercar Series along with $800 worth of tyres. Third prize is $400 worth of renovations by Milligan’s of Forster.
All entertainers have donated their services to this special and will travel as far away as from Sydney to perform.
Mr Bromhead said he had been overwhelmed by support Manning and Great Lakes Men’s Sheds, which would have displays, along support from the Forster-Tuncurry Lions Club, which will provide hot food, the CWA Forster branch, with the assistance from the Great Lakes Breast Cancer Support Group will have a Devonshire Tea pavilion.
An auction will take place at around 1pm with some great items having been donated by the Men’s Sheds
EFTPOS facilities will be available on the day for those wishing to participate in the auction.
Local urologist Dr Ben Kwok will be on hand to answer any questions attendees might have in relation to prostate cancer.
