The $100,000 for more bus shelters around Old Bar and Wallabi Point has been provided to MidCoast Council and council will supervise the construction.
This, along with the footpath construction, is a significant item on the chamber "to do" list which should now be able to be ticked off.
A number of chamber of commerce members were present last Thursday when member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Andrew Constance, attended Old Bar and announced funding of $500,000 towards the construction of a cycleway from the Pacific Highway at Glenthorne to Old Bar and Wallabi Point.
Also present were MidCoast Council administrator, John Turner; general manager, Glen Handford and engineer, Ron Hartley.
Some of the cycleway will pass through the forest and national park and some will be along Old Bar Road.
This was welcome news for chamber members as it has the potential to significantly boost tourism as well as improve the amenity of residents.
Who knows, some may choose to commute to work in Taree via this facility.
Another matter that would be of great benefit to Old Bar, Wallabi Point and Manning Point residents is an upgrade of Old Bar Road.
Mega garage sale on Saturday
Old Bar's annual mega garage sale, Garage Sales-R-Us is about to happen again.
Now in its twelfth year and sponsored by the Old Bar Beach Festival, it is once again set to attract huge crowds of bargain hunters to the town. In the past, they have come from across the State and even from interstate.
It will be held this Saturday, September 2. It is not too late to register so call Garages Sales-R-Us organiser Chris Rowsell on 6553 3122.
This is a unique opportunity for Old Bar residents to hold a sale as you won't see a bigger crowd of clients at any other time.
The Old Bar Beach Festival will be held over the long weekend, September 30 to October 2.

Beach Festival Volunteers Needed
The Old Bar Beach Festival will again be held over the long weekend September 30 to October 2.
The committee organising the event is seeking volunteers to assist in this venture.
Volunteers to assist in manning the entrances, guiding visitors, selling merchandise etc are needed.
Experience is not needed and all necessary equipment is provided.
Rosters will be organised so volunteers have sessions of two hours on the Saturday and Sunday.
Those interested can send their details (name, age – if under 18 – and contact details) to the festival email address "festivalvolunteers10@gmail.com" or phone/SMS 0438 406 652.
Your contact details can be either an email address or phone number.
Footpath progress
Our footpath from the CBD to the beach is progressing slowly but surely.
The section from Bryan Street, past the pre-school and along the front of the park has been completed and now in use.
The remainder has many sections completed with those segments where there are underground services still to be done.
This has come about after over two years of lobbying by the Chamber of Commerce.
