The team swept through the recently completed junior representative season to claim the Molten Waratah Eastern/Northern Junior Basketball League title undefeated and by virtue of the performances through that competition gained a place in the State Cup.
Only eight teams split across two divisions progress to the State Cup and the Taree Tornadoes girls have been grouped with Norths Bears Black, Wagga Wagga Blaze and the Camden Valley Wildfires and will start their campaign tomorrow at 9am.
The girls will need to hit the court running and ready to play in each game as there are no semi-finals at this event with the top team from each pool being the grand finalists.
Coaching guru, Bernie Slattery, made his first return to Saxby’s Stadium last weekend after a long absence to conduct training sessions for all current and potential junior representative players and attendance numbers across all age groups were good.
He will be back this weekend to run specialised shooting sessions and there are still spaces available. Anyone who would like to gain knowledge of the mechanics needed to put the ball in the basket on a regular basis you should grab one of the positions quickly.
Saxby’s Stadium is the home of Taree Basketball and details about junior, women’s or men’s basketball may be obtained on the telephone at (02) 6551 7456, by email tareebasketball@hotmail.com, on the net at www.taree.basketball.net.au or track down Taree Basketball on Facebook.
