School news
Last Wednesday afternoon the teachers from Lansdowne School and Upper Lansdowne School met to discuss numeracy. As a collegial group, they could share best practice ideas and provide a glimpse of what occurs in their classrooms.
This allowed the Upper Lansdowne School to share their Fraction movies, Ms Lawton shared her week three class activities on addition that involved using dominoes, number lines and their workbooks.
On Friday, the Upper Lansdowne school children had to predict if a person could stand on a balloon without “popping” it. Of course, every child predicted that this task was impossible. But amazingly they were able to “load 12 children onto the balloon” before it eventually popped.
It only popped due to the unequal distribution of weight. Maybe next time they will aim to achieve the whole school.
This week they will continue to explore “Water” and try to “Save An Ice Cube” from the dreadful fate of melting.
This week’s Upper Lansdowne school awards were presented to the following students. Reader of The Week - Michael Dickson, Student of The Week - Koko Hardy. Other awards Rosie Wiliamson - Being a responsible librarian, Shayne Beaumont - Being a responsible librarian, Sam Johnson - Working hard on writing.
