Saturday saw the club hold its Annual General Meeting at the club rooms. There was a good and enthusiastic showing of members, who after a couple of turbulent years were anxious to put all of that behind them and go forward together again.
As a result there was a complete changing of the guard on the committee. Noel Sawyer was elected as president, with Gordon Robbie taking over as treasurer. Andrew Figg takes over the role of vice president, and Glenn Buckman continues as our very efficient secretary.
The election of the committee members resulted in the election of Greg Spekking, Kevin Bambury and Geoff Reay. The vacated position of public officer was filled by Ted Wheeler who also volunteered to resume the duties of publicity officer.
On handing down the club’s financial report for the year, Noel was able to show that we are in a very good financial situation, much better than forecast at the last AGM by our previous incumbent. We must extend a vote of thanks to member Brian Chambers who, as a retired accountant, has supplied invaluable advice and auditing skills.
As I have already mentioned members are looking to the future with renewed enthusiasm. This has been evidenced by the return of several old members and the admission of some new ones.
The Saturday prior to the AGM the club enjoyed a visit from seven members of the NSW Diesel Era Modelling Club. This visit, organised by Dave Porter, was greatly enjoyed by both members and visitors. The quality of the model building was more than impressive and provides a renewed incentive to improve our efforts.
Finally we would like to extend a warm invitation from any person out there who would like to have a look at our hobby. Please feel free to come along any Wednesday or Saturday to our club rooms in the old rail freight building in Manning Street.
