The students are the driving forced behind the Restore the Dignity program where donations of toiletry and sanitary items are collected for men and women and distributed to the homeless or less fortunate than others.
Studying for a Mental Health Diploma, the students decided to give their assistance to the shelter.
In mid-September the women will host a Mental Health Awareness black tie dinner and dance evening with all funds raised being donated to the shelter.
The evening is also being held to raise awareness for the wellbeing of women and their children who have experienced domestic violence.
As part of the diploma we are required to undertake a community project to be successful in the completion of the course, the women said.
One Door Mental Health has enabled the women to organised the event and enabled the establishment of a support group for carers of youth with mental health issues.
The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at One Door Mental Health office in Wynter Street, Taree from 9.30 to 11.30am.
Great support has been received from local business and the organisers thank them for their donations.
The Mental Health Awareness Black Tie Dinner will be held on September 16 at the Taree Wingham Race Club in Bushland Drive, Taree.
Tickets cost $50 and includes a three course meal and live music.
Lots of raffle and lucky door prizes also will be included during the night.
Tickets are available from Mydie, One Door Mental Health on 0429 995 907 or Deb 0417 435 369 and Rhonda 0412 777 179.
