NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller APM will present Valour Awards for exceptional bravery to senior constable Brad Greenwood and senior constable Timothy Thumpston.
Both officers are conferred Valour awards for conspicuous merit and exceptional bravery in response to a house fire on Godwin Street, Forster in 2013.
On Saturday, May 4 2013, senior constable Greenwood and senior constable Thumpston attended a home and noticed the garage of the premise was on fire and a person was inside.
Senior constable Greenwood forced down the front door and both officers entered the home which was fully engulfed with smoke.
The officers located a man inside and escorted him outside.
Once outside the home, they attempted to stop the fire spreading by using a garden hose until other emergency services arrived.
Commissioner Fuller said the Valour award is the highest commendation that he can bestow on officers for acts of bravery.
“This award acknowledges the extraordinary courage, selflessness and professionalism displayed by each of the officers in the line of duty.
“These officers have demonstrated the highest standards of the NSW Police Force, risking their own safety for the protection of others.
“It is an honour to present Valour awards recognising the outstanding actions of these officers,” Commissioner Fuller said.
