The Taree Tornadoes have qualified to play in the U12 girls and boys, U14 girls and boys, U16 boys and U18 girls and boys and to top off that representation on court is the news that three referees, Bethany Macdonald, Grace McCallum and Ben Williams, have been selected to the referee panel to control games over the weekend.
The Molten Waratah Northern Junior Basketball League covers the area from Quirindi and Tamworth to the Queensland border and Taree Basketball has excelled in gaining finals qualification for seven teams.
The Tornadoes in the U12 girls and U14 boys have had an outstanding year with undefeated runs through the round games in their respective age divisions and look to be the teams some likely to claim final’s success.
The U16 boys and U18 boys topped the competition ladders in both their age divisions and also have excellent chances of claiming titles.
The U12 boys, U14 girls and U18 girls are also right in the frame for a successful weekend and when it comes to finals basketball.
“It doesn’t matter if you are undefeated or the team coming from fourth position, it’s all about who does the little things well and can deal with excitement, and pressure cooker environment on court who come out on top,’’ Taree Baskeball’s Paul Healy said.
Sunday Basketball at Saxby’s Stadium in Taree for children from kindergarten to year 10 will not be played this weekend because of reduced numbers caused by the junior representative finals in Port Macquarie but will be back again on Sunday, August 13 at 9am.
The Tuesday afternoon/night junior and senior competitions rolled into round one earlier in the week following a couple of weeks of trial games and if the first week is any indication the run to the finals in the middle of December is going to produce close and exciting basketball on a regular basis.
There are still places available to join teams and if it’s fun, fitness and friendship basketball is certainly an option with further information available at Saxby’s Stadium or through anyone of Taree Basketball’s contact channels.
