The Australian Landscape Exhibition will be showcased at Artarmon Galleries and a ‘meet the artist’ event will be held on Saturday, July 22 from 2pm to 4pm.
The exhibition continues until mid-August.
Rod grew up in Caparra surrounded by rugged Australian country and said he has always been inspired by and enjoys painting landscapes
He works in oil paints and uses bold colour and fluid brushstrokes to create the beauty and mood he aims to evoke.
Rod most recently (in April/May) exhibited a collection of work at the Manning Regional Art Gallery.
He creates his artworks in an outdoor studio at his home.
“I mainly work in oils because they seem to have the guts or the depth of colour that I need. They’re a bit sympathetic when drying too,” he said.
His work is influenced by many artists, including Van Gogh, Arthur Streeton and Monet.
Rod’s early years gave him a good grounding in drawing and art.
“My grandparents encouraged me, and my parents encouraged me, to purely keep drawing and keep painting, which I’ve never stopped. But I feel like I’ve just started.”
He attended the Sydney School of the Art in the late 1970s, early ‘80s and then went on to Newcastle University for a couple of years.
Artarmon Galleries is located at 479 Pacific Hwy, Artarmon, Sydney.
