Following the huge success of TasteFest on the Manning, Samaritans was the grateful recipient of support from the Taree Lions Club, with more than $10,000 worth of plumbing, blinds and more to transform the local women and children’s refuge.

Immediate past president of the Taree Lions Club, Phil Grisold said the club was happy to support the service in taking a stand against domestic violence while making a big difference in the community.
“The community was exceedingly generous on the day, embracing the concept of the event and getting behind the cause by making a donation at the gate. We are really proud that the donations have had such a positive impact on women and children in our community,” Phil said.
“The Lions club has had a long relationship with the refuge service and we are strong advocates for speaking out against domestic violence in our community, while supporting women and children who need to flee their homes due to family violence or breakdown,” Phil said.
“The Lions club’s significant contribution helps progress Samaritans services further by allowing other resources to be directed to where they are most desperately needed, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of women and children at the refuge,” Michelle Stocks, community services manager said.
“Samaritans relies on the goodwill and generosity of the community and the valuable partnerships formed with local organisations to help us continue our work to support people in need,” Ms Stocks said.
TasteFest saw more than 12,000 visitors enjoying a beautiful summer day out by the Manning River and will continue as an annual community event.
