The well-known local resident was struck by a car on Saturday March 4 while riding his bike along the Lake Cathie straight.
He was critically injured, sustaining broken bones and lacerations to his entire body.
His wife Leanne says the support for Tony has been ‘brilliant’.
“Rotary Club Port Macquarie West donated monies from a mother’s day raffle,” she said.
“Tone is going well. The progress has been gradual but sustained and it is amazing to see what he is achieving both physically and mentally.”
But the rehabilitation is ongoing.
Along with the gofundme page – set up by friend Melinda Cockshutt – the Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club is also supporting Tony, Leanne and their children.
Club president Rick Rolfe said every club member is behind Tony’s ongoing rehabilitation.
“Everyone is right behind him. We are all continually thinking of him and working our best to get him back up here,” Mr Rolfe said.
“And the club will stay right behind him.
“There have been a couple of fundraising nights held to support Tony and the family with a recent golf day achieving between $8000 and $9000.
“Those funds will go to Tony’s rehabilitation.”
Mr Rolfe said the golf day was held in poor weather conditions, but everyone still turned up to support Tony.
Another fundraising event – probably a trivia night with some card games – will be held in the near future.
“Once we have some dates on that we will let everyone know,” Mr Rolfe said.
Tony is well known in surf life saving and lifeguard circles. He is also a long term volunteer for Ironman Australia and is a popular bus driver in the area.
