Captains for 2017-2018 are Maddison Boyd and Luke Rochester with Catharine Nolan-Slattery and Zac Fletcher as vice captains.
“The out-going captains have done a wonderful job and we have seen them grow over the last 12 months into more confident speakers with obvious increased self-esteem coming from their time in front of their peers,” principal Don Hudson said. “Thank you to Bailey Schultz, Katelyn Gregory, Tate Bruinsma, Taylor Garemyn, Thomas Locke and Bianca Mason for their leadership and insight not only for the past 12 months whilst in their official roles but for the contributions throughout their time at BCS.”
Mr Hudson said the school endeavours to provide more opportunities for meaningful student participation and leadership, including student voice and decision making, not only for the elected leadership team and through the SRC (Student Representative Council) but in the everyday life of the school.
“Students can be leaders in the classroom, through their actions in the playground, through their support for others, or their involvement in academic, sporting, cultural or local community events or projects.
“We know, and the research tells us, that the whole school community benefits when students get involved in planning and decision-making and when participants, students, staff and community work together on issues they choose and value.
“Students learn and develop great skills when they engage, participate and lead within the school community and we see this happening everyday within our classrooms and at other events across the school and out in the community.
“Our students have unique perspectives on learning, teaching, and schooling, and should have the opportunity to actively shape their own education.” the principal said.
“It is through the differing systems and processes we have that allow our students to contribute to our decision-making processes and collectively influencing outcomes by putting forward their views, concerns and ideas.”
