The side opened their campaign with a 4-0 win over Nepean in front of a vocal home crowd. Their second game was the local derby against Port Macquarie where they came away with a solid 2-0 result.
The second day’s results weren’t as positive with Manning going down to Dubbo and New England. Manning attacked hard against Dubbo but couldn’t find the back of the net.
However, the other results in the pool went Manning’s way and they finished second.
A loss to Bathurst in the semi-final ended their championship. New England beat Bathurst in the decider.
In other divisions Newcastle won division three while the division one final between Newcastle (1) and Metro South West (1) from Sydney went into extra time with a player drop off after it was 1-1 at fulltime. Newcastle scored the winning goal to cap a great game where both sides showed great skills.
“It was a fitting spectacle to end a fantastic weekend of hockey,’’ Manning Hockey president Debbie Monck said.
Thirty teams played in the championship in three divisions.
