A planning proposal has been prepared which seeks to amend the Great Lakes Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2014 by making additions and amendments to the heritage schedule which lists items of environmental heritage.
Each of the proposed items also will be added to the heritage maps in the LEP.
"The objectives of the planning proposal are to identify, protect and conserve local environmental heritage in the former Great Lakes region," MidCoast Council strategic planning manager, Roger Busby said.
The additional 37 proposed items have been identified from the 2007 Great Lakes Heritage Study and includes 15 Crown Land sites, three NSW Department of Education sites, two Road and Maritime Services sites and one National Park site.
The remaining 16 sites are privately owned, and all landholders have been advised of the proposal.
There's a wide range of items being proposed for heritage listing, including the St Paul's Anglican Church at Nabiac, the Booral Bridge, a number of war memorials and the former ferry sites on Wallis Lake at Forster Tuncurry.
"The inclusion of the proposed items ensures that heritage in the Great Lakes region which is important to the community is recognised and protected and conserved for future generations,” Mr Busby said.
The planning proposal is on exhibition from Wednesday, June 14 until Friday 14 July and can be viewed on council's website Have your Say page, or Forster, Stroud, Tea Gardens, or Gloucester offices during opening hours, and also at the Bulahdelah Rural Transaction Centre.
If you would like to speak to key staff about the proposal, you can drop in to the Forster office on every Tuesday and Thursday during the exhibition period from 10am-3pm.
