As president of Taree VIEW, Pat Hammond welcomed the national The members were joined by the national vice-president Toni Thomas and national councillor Liz Doorey as well as zone councillor Christine Manger. Federal MP Dr David Gillespie and State MP Stephen Bromhead were also on the guest list.
Inaugural member Joy Davey was invited to cut the cake. Another inaugural member, Jan Howard could not attend the function.
The VIEW club’s first meeting on May 16, 1967 was held at the Caravilla Motel after a public notice in the Manning River Times.
It was the first VIEW Club established outside Sydney and the first meeting was hosted by Taree Municipal Council mayor, Shirley Kennedy in the council chambers. Roma Liggin was president and Joy Davey was vice president.
The club’s first lunch was held at the Royal Hotel in August, attended by the State president.
The club’s initial membership of 20 quickly grew to 70.
