STUDENTS students from Taree High, Great Lakes College in Tuncurry and Forster played in the knockout round of the Hunter High Schools ‘Let’s Play Bowls’ competition at Taree Leagues this wee.

Now, in its third year this open competition is proving popular with students as an exciting sport to play. A one game knock out on Taree Leagues’ magnificent greens resulted in three teams heading to the district finals scheduled for Monday September 18 at the club.
Enjoyment, competitive play, quality bowls, teamwork, and sportsmanship were the skills displayed during the two sets of eight ends with a ‘shoot-out’ end. With a number of first time bowlers the standard of play lifted in the second set on all rinks. This was highlighted in the Taree/GLC Forster game. The Taree No 2 team (all girls) came from a heavy loss in the first set to lead the second set until the final bowl in what was best described as a ‘nail biter’ just an exciting finish to the day.
The three winning teams in Taree High No1 and GLC Forster No 1 and 2 teams now join Wingham High at the Manning District finals in September.
“Congratulations to all in what was a terrific day,’’ Hunter Lets play Bowls co-ordinator Warren Boyd from Newcastle said said.
“Special mention to GLC Tuncurry in entering, for the first time two teams that were a credit to their schools as were the entire group of students.’’
