The works were conducted as part of a significant asphalt resurfacing program rolled out in Taree, Harrington, Old Bar and Wingham that targeted structurally sound roads with a reseal treatment that will effectively extend their life.
In the recently completed Victoria Street works, resurfacing was undertaken from Macquarie Street through to the Browns Creek Bridge.
“It’s one of Taree’s busiest roads, providing a key thoroughfare through town”, said Ron Hartley, MidCoast Council’s director egineering and infrastructure services.
“While the project was designed to minimise impact on traffic, frequently changing lane closures and, at times detours, were involved to keep the traffic flowing, so it was great to see local motorists adhering to reduced speed limits and following directional signage”.
While line-marking in July will complete the works, the results are visibly noticeable and provide a smoother, safer driving surface for the busy Victoria Street section.
Road crews will recommence resurfacing from next Wednesday, June 28, targeting Crescent Avenue / Oxley Street from Browns Creek Bridge, through to the Blackboy Tree Motel.
Works in this section will again retain through-traffic under a contra-flow arrangement, and are expected to continue for around one week.
This project is part of MidCoast Council’s $30 million Roadcare Program which has been made available through savings and funding provided as a result of the merger. To stay updated on the progress of these works, please visit www.myroadinfo.com.au
