Sydney, South Coast, Central Coast, Parkes, Dubbo, Bathurst, Orange, Wagga, Newcastle, Tamworth, Far North Coast, Coffs Harbour, Grafton along with Manning will be represented.
There will be three divisions, with two pools of five teams in each. Preliminary matches will continue tomorrow with finals on Sunday.
”We haven't had the best weather in the lead up to the tournament and the rain has made some of the grass fields we would have preferred to use still unplayable,’’ Manning Hockey president Debbie Monck said.
“Council has managed to mark up two fields for games on Sunday morning. So hopefully the weather holds off for the rest of the weekend and we won’t have any hiccups.’’
Games start at 8am today and tomorrow. Matches today and tomorrow will run until 7.40pm.
Manning under 15s will play in the division two and play their first game at 5pm today and the second at 7.40pm.
There will be two games for Manning on Saturday at 10.30 and 3.30. This will determine whether they play on Sunday in the finals.
Finals on Sunday are due to hit off at 1pm with the presentation at 2.40.
Experienced level two coach Ben Brown has charge of the Manning 15s. An injury to goalie Dylan Murphy disrupted preparations, however, the No 2 goalie from Nepean will deputise.
Ben said the team is keen and he is hoping the exposure them to the fast pace and experienced teams in their pool.
He is confident this will help develop the players individually as well as a team. Ben feels that they have a good chance but are coming up against traditionally strong teams New England, Dubbo and Nepean.
Port Macquarie is also in Manning's pool and are a bit of an unknown quantity. This will also provide a bit of local rivalry for bragging rights.
Although the team is young and haven't played a lot of hockey together, they have some promising players including Drew Pensini, Conor Smith, Ryan Hudson and Kurt Walters and a good showing is expected.
