Road Safety Education (RSE) program director Greg Rappo said the program encourages students to make good choices behind the wheel.
“RYDA is a ‘must have’ in every young driver’s education. The program focuses on attitude and awareness, empowering young people to make good choices.
“It gives students an opportunity to develop and take home individual strategies, which they don’t receive anywhere else.
“We focus on senior high school students, their parents and schools with a view to creating a safety culture throughout.
“Education is paramount to decreasing the road toll, along with increased policing, government campaigns, safe roads and vehicles,” Mr Rappo said.
Students from nine schools – Taree Christian College, St Clare’s High School, Taree High School, Chatham High School, Manning Valley Anglican College, Wingham High School, Tuncurry Senior College, Bulahdelah Central School and Gloucester High School – took part in the program.
RYDA is a community based initiative coordinated through local Rotary clubs.
