Teaching children road safety
Lansdowne School will be visited by police liaison officer David Russell on Monday, June 19 to work with students on bike and road safety. Children are encouraged to bring a bike or scooter along to school that day so they can ride through the course that will be set up in the school grounds. This will teach students the meaning of road signs and how to stay safe on our roads. Helmets must be worn for bikes and scooters. Bikes and scooters can be dropped off at school in the morning and collected in the afternoon.
The school will be celebrating NAIDOC Day next Tuesday, June 20. Students from Chatham High School Aboriginal Dance Groups will be performing. After the performance, students will be working in groups on a variety of activities including art, dance, games and storytelling. There will be a sausage sizzle available for lunch. Parents and community members are welcome to attend. The day will commence at 9.30am and conclude with lunch at midday.
Cake stall a success
The Lansdowne School P and C held a very successful cake stall at Bunnings last Saturday the 10th June. All cakes were sold and the Ninja Turtle decorated cakes were very popular with the children especially since there were two of the Ninja Turtles there on the day. Many thanks to everyone who supported the school either with cakes, working on the stall or by purchasing the beautifully iced cakes. Also to Janet at Bunnings for her help, it was very much appreciated. Molly Stuart was the winner of the raffle.
A hive of activity
The Upper Lansdowne Garden and Social club had an interesting time on their last outing learning more about bees their habitat, honey collection, and the possible medicinal benefits of pure honey. Our presenter was Harrington’s Charlie Fuller who sells his honey through local businesses. We were all sweetened by the taste of fresh honey comb from the hive robbed less than an hour earlier. For those interested in joining the groups next outing it will be held on Tuesday, June 20 when they will meet at Di Palmer's home at West St, Coopernook. Everyone will then travel to Babushka at Lorne to experience some bush tucker and discover which plants we need to have in our gardens to pick from and enjoy. Ring Shirley on 6556 9128 for more information. The Workshop Trio will perform at the Lansdowne Bowling and Recreation club this Friday, June 17. A major lawn bowls tournament will take place there over the weekend.
