View (which stands fro voice, interests and education of women) clubs were formed in 1960, as at the time women were not allowed to join other service clubs such as Rotary, Lions and Apex.
The Taree View Club was formed in 1967, and was the first View club to be formed outside of Sydney. It now has a strong membership of 88 members.
View covered a need for women so that they could meet in friendship where isolation and family problems would be eased.
View clubs meet once a month and enjoy a pleasant lunch and a glass of wine, or a tea or coffee, and an exchange of ideas and socialising with other women.
Guest speakers attend each monthly meeting and talk on a variety of subjects, helping to widen members’ horizons.
The View network has a membership of 25,000 women who support the Smith Family with financial and material assistance, as well as sponsoring young students from financially disadvantaged families through a program called Learning for Life. Taree View Club currently sponsor four students.
The Taree ladies get a great deal of satisfaction from being able to help disadvantaged Australians through the Smith Family and at the same time forming long lasting friendships.
RSVP before June 19 to Pat Hammond on 0412 684 044 or Melinda Delmas on 6559 9919.
